My co-worker, who started working here in early November is a real jerk! He used to come in late whenever he felt like it until it was brought to his attention by our supervisor. He smelled like BO for the first month and our supervisor had to speak to him in private and has called out “sick” at least 4 times during this time including the day after our company holiday party where he drank too much. He’s a complete moron and just rubs me the wrong way because of the way he carries himself. Yesterday he was bragging about how much $ he was going to spend on his GF for her b-day next month.

If he left me a message saying: “I am not feeling well today and I’m going to try to make it in but it’s not looking good right now…”, should I call him to confirm that he won’t be in?

He’s keeping me from doing what I need to get done because he has to cover me while I do it.
Everyone gets a 3-month probation but this is his first office job so he may not be aware of that unless someone told him when they offered him the job.
I shouldn’t have to take it upon myself to warn him about what he’s doing wrong even though I’m above him (most because of seniority).
